HUGO SHOWS HIS COLORS

South America is on the verge of war...
South America was on the brink of war yesterday as Venezuela and Ecuador amassed troops on the Colombian border in response to the killing of a Marxist rebel leader.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened to join the rebels in a war to overthrow hard-line Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, a key ally of the United States, deploying tanks, fighter jets and thousands of troops along the Colombian border.

As Fausta says at Pajamas, Chavez is "rattling his saber." He desperately needs something to distract his people from the fact that he has taken their economy down the toilet (see previous post for an explanation of the psychological mechanism involved)

Of note, are these two little tidbits of information:
But the Colombians described the raid as the most significant blow yet against the FARC.

And evidence found in the raid suggests that Chavez recently gave the FARC $300 million, Colombia's national police chief said Monday.

Speaking at a news conference, Gen. Oscar Naranjo said evidence in three seized computers also suggests FARC had given Chavez 100 million pesos when he was a jailed rebel leader.

Naranjo said other evidence in the computers suggests FARC purchased 50 kilograms of uranium this month.

"The revelations about agreements between the terrorist group FARC and the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela will be submitted to the Organization of American States and the United Nations," Uribe's communique said Monday. (emphasis mine)

Gee, I wonder who they could have purchased it from? I guess you could say that dear Hugo is in with the terrorists.

This will only raise his standing with the political left in this country! Soon, Cindy Sheehan and the peabrains of Hollywood and academia will soon be swooning yet again at benevolent actions of the courageous tyrant of Venezuela who has brought "hope and change" (especially change) to his adoring people.
